Janadesh is not a programme or an event. This is something that we were building together from bottom for the last many years. Across the country there were foot marches to highlight the suffering of the people and suggest land reforms as a method to deal with many of the rural problems. Half hearted efforts were made some state government but they are able to touch the powerful lobby in the society in order to take land and redistribute. In the last 20 years there must have been thousands of rallies and sit-ins in different parts of the country. If we try to put together, all the documents which we gave to the government from time to time, this will be really huge pile of documents. The realization that the political parties of this country are not willing to act in support of the poor people is becoming clearer every day. The call for Janadesh emerges from this reality. As we are nearing to Janadesh there is Satyagraha going on in Bihar, and another one in Orissa since 8th March 2007. Many states and districts are getting ready to organise support rallies before and during Janadesh. Andhra Pradesh will organise support rallies in all the 30 districts in the state. The organisation has paid a price to build up a movement and take it to Janadesh. Satyabhama died in Raigarh of Chhattisgarh, Mangi bai died in Sheopurkalan of Chambal valley in Madhya Pradesh. Only recently a lady village leader died in the Bihar Satyagraha. What is surprising is on one side landless poor and farmers are sacrificing their life and on the other hand government is behaving as if nothing is going wrong.
